Dan 'DKS' Smith

DKSDan began his musical journey in 1997 as a Nirvana covers band drummer at the very tender age of 13. When it would soon become apparent that the majority of the other members were not as interested in writing original material, his attention turned to 4 track recorders, guitars and drum machines. Using a very old version of cakewalk, he uncovered a skill for sequencing and programming that would later form the basis of his reportoire. Having only ever flirted with solo song writing, he would soon accept that producing music with (and for) other people would be where his natural skills would flourish.

In 2005 Dan began releasing 12" Singles, working under many guises and with many different artists. His productions received a huge amount of air play on Radio 1 and was even invited onto Fergie's show to chat about one of the singles. From the relationships he built working at at White Noise promotions,  he was soon involved on the remix scene, working with Colin (White Noise's Owner) on remixes for artists such as Scissor Sisters, Underworld, X-Press 2 & Nine Inch Nails, as well as remixing a plethora of Underground artists from across the board. The latest manifestation of his productions and remixes was joining forces with Shane to start the Finyl Tweek DJs. A project that has proved popular, and very much remains in the pipeline, just as soon as the mastering cools down a bit!

A spell of mixing down tracks for other artists led to the inception of Stem Mastering at Finyl Tweek, a service never before available at Heathmans and one that widens the range of services available. By the end of 2009 the mastering departments had become so busy he was to start working evenings in the studio to take on some of the mastering work. His intricate skill and speed at editing made him an ideal candidate for putting compilations together, whilst his long term and in-depth knowledge of producing music meant he was perfect for EQing digital and CD tracks.
